A Warm Welcome to Our New Pastor

September 1, 2009

Please welcome the Rev. Jonathan Mellette as our new pastor. Jonathan received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Methodist College in 1997, specializing in piano and vocal performance. In 2005 after 14 years of music ministry, Jonathan answered the call to pastoral ministry. In 2009, Jonathan received his Master of Divinity degree from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.

Jonathan most recently served in campus ministry as the Executive Director of the United Christian Fellowship at Navarro College, and in the local church as the pastor of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Corsicana, Texas.

His call to ministry is centered in worship and focused on preaching. In 2006, Jonathan received the W.B.J. Martin Award in Homiletics in recognition of being named the most outstanding student in all of the introductory preaching classes. In 2008, he received the Paul W. Quillian Award in Homiletics, for presenting the best-written sermon over the course of the year. That sermon was subsequently selected for and published in the prestigious Perkins Student Journal. Jonathan has participated in several revivals in our conference in the past few years, through both music and preaching.

Jonathan has two children, Matthew (15) and Grace (9); and three dogs, Ginger, Chloe, and Max. He assures us that he loves the children more than the dogs, but admits that sometimes the children might beg to differ!

Jonathan grew up on a small farm in central Indiana, and spent most of his life there before moving to the Austin, Texas area in 2000. While serving in music ministry part time in both Indiana and Texas, he spent eight years in the software development industry as a software engineer. His hobbies include playing tennis and racquetball, reading, going to the movies, and spending time with his children.

Please extend a warm welcome to Jonathan and his children. We look forward to the sharing of his many talents as he helps lead us in our mission to build the Kingdom of God.
